Here's what I think: We are complex machines and work-life balance may just be a beautiful dream. There's a lot of very diverse jobs we just have to contend with every day. Believing we can be super competent in all of them is just a set up. To be clear, I think it's great if you're really good at something in particular - maybe just don't drop all the other balls you're juggling just because you're not an expert in all those other things. Believe or not, you (and your students) don't have to do everything 'well.' I'd like to share this video that promotes "Breadth and Variety" over "Total Focus Perfection" - embracing the fact that we make tons of mistakes, and that's pretty much normal.
